The City of McRae-Helena Fire Department is a combination department with a total of 4 full-time and 21 volunteer firefighters that serve both the City of McRae-Helena along with the citizens of Telfair and surrounding counties. The department receives an average of 450 emergency calls per year. We respond to structure fires, brush fires, vehicle fires, motor vehicle accidents (with and without extrication), and any other emergencies where our services are needed to assist citizens. The department also assists Telfair EMS with emergency medical calls.

What is the ISO Rating for McRae-Helena?
The City of McRae-Helena underwent an ISO Audit in 2015. During this audit, the ISO rating dropped from a Class 5 to a Class 4 rating. This will save home owners and business owners on insurance premiums as long as the home or business is within five road miles of either Station 1 or Station 2.
How do I apply for a burn permit?
If you live inside the city limits of McRae-Helena, call the fire department and we will provide permission to burn as long as the conditions are favorable to burn. If you live outside of the city limits of McRae-Helena, call the Georgia Forestry Commission at 229-868-3381 to receive a permit.
